Role Overview:
  • The Key Influencers Lead will provide overall technical leadership for V4C's approach to transforming existing negative and discriminatory social norms amongst men, boys and other key influencers by creating a perception of gender equality and women's empowerment as the 'new norm'. S/he will facilitate action within grassroots/street level social movements to demand recognition and value the role and voices of AGW within communities and politics at all  levels through work with key influencers including boys and men, religious, traditional, political, media and other leaders.  The Output Lead will work closely with each of the other Output leadsto generate critical mass of men and boys supporters  = as individual gender champions who will promote GEWE issues using both physical and virtual platforms The Lead will also facilitate and ensure effective coordination of V4C program in relation to working in partnership with international agencies leading on men, masculinity and gender transformation in implementing States as well as develop linkages and collaboration with other DFID programs, national, International partners and Civil Societies in safe space work.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead on changing attitudes and perceptions of 12,000 men and boys through virtual and physical safe spaces
  • Lead on development and delivery of a methodology for physical peer groups for adolescent men and boys (16-25) in post-secondary education.
  • Work closely in collaboration with Output 1 and 2 Leads to generate content for  virtual based  peer platforms targeting boys and men.
  • Ensure  regular update of web-based content and monitor virtual platforms to ensure respectful and safe of web-based discussion
  • Lead on promotion of  gender equality peer education within existing men's meeting structures.
  • Support State coordinators and implementing partners to recruit, and continually inspire V4C  boys and men as Brand Ambassadors within post secondary institutions to promote V4C core messages using innovative approaches
  • Contribute to development  'lifestyle inspirational' brand platform; i.e. information on fashion, music, dance, religion, relationships ensuring it targets the interests of men and boys
  • Recruitment of 4,000 key influencers, to publicly commit to support selected Gender Equality and Women's empowerment issues
  • Technical lead in delivering the religious traditional and political leaders strategy aimed at building the capacity of key influencers to encourage gender equality and women's empowerment
  • Support innovative advocacy and campaign work with media and high profile personalities
  • Build networks and campaigning with men and boys to promote the 'new norms' around gender equality and women's empowerment
  • Responsible for creating demand for, and support development of, a nationwide network of men and boys
  • Lead in support to networks and partner campaign initiatives, including an end to  violence against women and girls.
 
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
  • Minimum of a Masters degree in social sciences, humanities or a related discipline or (Chris what is that term which allows someone with out a masters but with a degree and lots of experience to apply)
  • Minimum of 3 years working with groups of men and boys on issues relating to gender, including: working with men and boys for gender equality and women's empowerment; exploring masculinities; to reduce violence against women and girls; or to promote equality within sexual health
  • Ability to facilitate group sessions with men and boys exploring gender equality in a supportive non threatening approach
  • Excellent facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven written skills
 
Desirable:
Experience in working with religious and traditional leaders
